What Is An Executive Speech Coach?
Posted by Richard in Teleprompter aka Autocue Monday, 21 February 2011 13:28 No Comments
What is an Executive Speech Coach, and why is such an individual so important to executive management? The a
nswer, in short, is that great leadership comes from the ability to command attention and communicate vital information. Effective communication skills are consistently listed as the number one predictor of success in virtually any career, yet over three-quarters of Americans list public speaking as their greatest fear. As one climbs higher on his or her career ladder, it becomes more and more likely that he or she will encounter situations in which public presentations are necessary.
Chances are good, though, that these individuals have not had focused speech training in their adult lives–hardly surprising, given the immense amount of focus on business required for them to get to the upper echelons of their organizations. An executive speech coach can step in to even the most pressure-packed situations and guide the presenter towards a speech filled with power, precision, and purpose. Our speech coaches have an exclusive license to use the new CICERO public speaking system, designed to take the presentation from its conception to its delivery with amazing effectiveness.

Teleprompter Rental Los Angeles (LA)
If you are doing a public broadcast or speaking in a studio for broadcast to the public, you don’t want to be seen looking down at your paperwork so often that you unintentionally lose eye contact with your audience.
In the old days, the person that we saw every day who dealt with this sort of thing was actually the newscasters. In LA, prompters and teleprompters became standard long before the rest of the country figured out what they were.
Years ago ( no I am not telling you how many ), my sister and I used to practice being newscasters. To do this, we would set ourselves up straight faced in front of our home camera and practice reading from a flat piece of paper for up to 25 words while looking dead ahead.
We tried real hard not to laugh and did our best poker face animation while doing our utmost to remember every single word that we had just committed to short term memory. There were times, when we thought we did a better job than the newscasters, whom we delightedly caught looking down at their paperwork every 12-14 words.
Then, suddenly everything changed but no one really noticed. First it was the weather lady, she not only spoke fluently without appearing to look at any paperwork, but she started pointing very accurately to places on an imaginary but very real map even though she wasn’t always even looking at the places she was pointing at. Well, that was like magic, but we all got so used to it that we didn’t even stop to ask, how the hell she did that.
Then, in another subtle shift, newscasters stopped looking down and reading the news information. This shift was so gradual across the country that most of us didn’t even notice it. The news people were suddenly looking directly at you and me as they spoke.
If you watched real close, in the early days you could sometimes catch their head moving back and forth ever so slightly. However, the studio management too quickly noticed that too and made them correct it so that only if you were very, very sharp would you catch their eyes sometimes moving from left to right as they were reading the teleprompter from a distance.
Studio technical management soon made the text on the teleprompter significantly larger and that cut out the side to side movement of the eyes. So, how long ago did this happen? Well, at least 10-15 years ago now.
So, if this change occurred in the TV studios more than a decade ago, why are you still reading from a static piece of paper while trying to talk to your audiences? Don’t you know that each shining face in the audience wants to believe that you are talking directly to them? Ha ha.
A few weeks ago, I was watching TV and saw a short clip of Rob Ford, the new mayor of Toronto, as
he bungled his way through a post-election victory speech. He looked down, looked up, looked down, stayed down, stayed down and we wondered when he was going to look back at us, but no, he just kept his head down while quickly glancing into the camera as if that was enough.
Pathetic! Doesn’t anyone on his election support crew know about teleprompter rentals? Ha ha. Ok Toronto is too far away for a Teleprompter rental in LA, but c’mon, someone in toronto has to be able to rent a presidential teleprompter for their mayor elect, right?
Now Los Angeles is a very “happening town” and not one that lives on old technology for very long, especially when it comes to the latest wide angle cameras, 3D technology, Tricasters and Presidential Teleprompters.

Teleprompter Rentals Add A Professional Touch
Most people automatically sit town and switch on the television with giving much consideration to what they are seeing. So much happens behind the camera that you aren’t aware of. There are techniques and tools used that make these programs that we see great. An example of one of the tools that you can rent is a prompter. Teleprompter rentals can help your productions look great.
Making a speech or an interview the best that they can be takes effort. You have a few different options in prompters. The one that is most thought of allows the person in front of the camera to look into the lens while reading the text from a panel of glass placed before the camera lens.
With this system the speaker looks directly into the lens yet they are still able to be seen through it by the camera. There is another system that is places the prompt under the lens but the line of sight even though it is close, is not directly into the lens. This glass panel is a type of a one-way glass. Even though the speaker sees the script the camera can see the speaker clearly through the glass panel.
Errol Morris was a man that figured out that he could use this type of prompter to interview people. He took note that the camera caught a third person perspective of most interviews. The audience always felt like observers instead of participants. He knew there was a way to make audience feel more like they were a part of the conversation, a way to make it more personal for the audience.
His idea was to use the technology of the prompter in his interviews. Instead of seeing script and interviewee would see a video feed of Errol. He would conduct the interview as normal. The difference is that the guest would now be speaking to the feed and not Errol. By doing this the guest would appear to be answering and speaking directly to the camera instead of looking at the interviewer.
Speeches utilize a different type of autocue known as the Presidential prompter or speech prompter. This is used when giving a speech in front of a crowd on a stage. The prompter is used independently and not placed in front or under a camera.
You place this style of prompter on a stand on stage next to the speaker. The prompt is a simple glass panel. The text of the speech is visible only to the speaker. The audience only sees a semi-transparent glass panel and nothing else. Speech prompters allow a speaker to give a flawless and professional speech that is error free.
Prompters can be pricey. Your needs for a prompter could be unique for this one time. It is possible to rent this equipment from a company called teleprompter-newyork.com. They will take care of your teleprompter rentals as well as your needs for battery pack which is needed when you a far from an outlet. Other companies often ignore this need.
